Each page in Marshall Township VIC includes a row of buttons at the top of the right frame to aid in navigating through the Code “pages.” From left to right the buttons are Contents, Index, Search, Favorites/Add to Favorites, Print Page, Previous, and Next. The function of each button is explained below:
VIC Buttons: | ||
Contents |
The Contents button is used to open the interactive table of contents (TOC) that is displayed in the left-hand frame of your browser window. You can close the TOC at anytime by clicking on the “X” in the upper right corner of the TOC frame (just to the left of the Contents button). Clicking the Contents button with the TOC displayed will “sync” it with your current location in the code. (See Dynamic Table of Contents for more details) |
Index |
The Index button displays the keyword Index for the code in the left frame of the browser (replacing the TOC). (See Index for more details) |
Favorites/Add to Favorites |
The
Favorites button displays a list of “favorites” in the left frame of the
browser. You create favorites in VIC by navigating to a section of
the code that you want to mark and clicking on the |

Print Page |
The Print Page button activates the print command and allows you to print a copy of the code that you are currently displaying. (See Print Page for more details) |
Previous/Next |
The “Previous” and “Next” buttons allow you to browse through the VIC Codes the same way you would using the printed version – a “page” at a time. Although a major advantage of VIC over the printed Code is the ability to jump from one section to another in a non-linear freeform fashion, there are times where you need to read through several “pages” in a row. The “Previous” and “Next” buttons simply move you forward or backward through the TOC, one screen “page” at a time. After using a hyperlink (or several) to look at cross-references you can “back” up to where you were by using the Browser’s “Back” button. |
Breadcrumbs |
In addition to the dynamic table of contents, which tracks your progress through the code, VIC includes a “Breadcrumb” trail in text form, just below the VIC buttons. The Breadcrumb trail shows where you are in the hierarchy of the ordinance. Clicking on any of the Articles or Sections listed will jump directly to the location. This allows you to “back up” to the next level of the hierarchy without using the TOC or browsing back one page at a time with the Back button. | |
> When you are finished with this section -- Click the “Next” button at the top of the page to continue with the Using VIC instructions. The next section is “Dynamic Table of Contents.”
